Artist Statement:
With a mixture of painting, collage and sculpture, I find myself creating a concoction that is assemblage but also interdisciplinary play. It usually starts with a material and afterwards it speaks to what it needs, which is determined by form, texture, and color.
These elements stand out to the intuitive eye, so when I’m working in the studio, a chain of momentum starts—leading to the placement of the next step or mark. Each decision is through blind trust and divine guidance within the present moment. It’s built from experimentation, a certitude process, and cause and effect with each decision grounded in the immediacy of the here and now. It’s a deep communication with the universe, trying to create a better understanding of my placement within the dexterity of craft.
There’s a rise in overconsumption of materials and how a person regurgitates it back into the street. I’m tied to these actions, unseen movements of others, their choices and discarded supply. Ultimately, my art is the result of engagement with life itself: a conversation between myself, my environment, and the greater forces of chance, timing, and faith.
Artist Bio:
Nicole Kiziuk (b. 1999, Hackensack, NJ) is a painter, photographer, and muralist. With subcategories such as: collage, sculpture, and modeling. Having been raised in Teaneck NJ, the experimental nature of the city next door is what inspired her to explore her own mediums and have them combined. Museums being a large influence, as well as her odd jobs which include teaching painting and collage classes, saleswomen at a camera shop, apprentice at an upholstery store, and currently working as a framer. Multiple murals for Brave New Radio to Madison Bagel Cafe, as well as pursuing solo and group exhibitions. Playfulness, curiosity, and intuition are main values of Nicole, driving the discovery of layers through her work. Recovery and spiritually is a large process in what, how and why she creates, everything mentioned has formed to the now.
